The long wait is over – tree finally flowers!

Posted on: May 19th, 2015 by admin

After nearly 13 years since planting the wait is over, it has finally flowered.

This tree in my garden is a handkerchief tree, davidia involuctra. the tree is nearly 20 feet tall and about 12 feet wide and can start to flower from about 10 years old, this one was obviously being stubborn!

When a large mature tree is covered with these papery white bracts (flowers) it is a sight to behold, there are only 2 on the tree this year but I am hopeful of more next year. I was given the tree as a present for my 40th birthday in 2002, it has grown steadily each year but been reluctant to flower until this year – It pays to be patient when gardening!
